Is It Safe To Give Thin Liquids For A Patient With Tortuous Esophagus And No Esophagram Results ?
I m a speech pathologist working with a patient in a skilled nursing home who has a tortuous esophagus. I have no esophagram results. How safe would it be to give him thin liquids. Also, since he has been NPO, what can be done to keep his tongue clean and moist?
Hi. You can not give thin syrups to such patients unless know for sure the diagnosis. The gargles can surely help to clean the tongue. I hope the patient is not dehydrated or not mouth-breathing ( the commonest causes of dry mouth). Needs to be treated accordingly .
