Please I am a young lady of 25 years having bad breath issues. My doctor has recommended tonsillectomy and I want to know if adenoidectomy is also necessary since I can feel my adenoids are also infected. Is the surgery dangerous? I am sooo scared. Please help
Hi. Thanks for your query. Read and understood your history that you are 25 years old and have bad breath issue. This is called ''Foetor". Adenoids are not enlarged at your age at all and tonsillectomy can help only if they are infected to cure your foetor. Yes, the surgery at your age is dangerous as there is more fibrosis and can have more chances of bleeding than the child. You have to undergo full investigations to see the cause. I would advise you the ENT Endoscopy, CT scan of the sinuses as this is one of the reasons of having bad breath. Stop all the foods and beverages that cause such bad breath.
A 3-week course of an antibiotic and supportive medicines can help you to slve your problem.
