Medical or physical restrictions on activity after hernia surgery only apply in the months following and after a year there are no restrictions at all. Even in the months following surgery most doctors agree that it is OK to walk, climb stairs, have sexual intercourse, or exercise as long as it doesn’t hurt. Usually we would only limit HEAVY LIFTING (more than 15KG) for 3 months. Returning to normal activity as soon as possible after hernia surgery will most likely enhance your recovery. If you do have pain or discomfort having sex then you may want to be examined by your family doctor.
