Is It Safe To Have Thyrox For High TSH Level And How Long To Continue? Is Homeopathy Best For Thyroid?

Hello Dr. My daughter is having 5.34 TSH level. She is advised to take thyrox 25mcg tab in an empty stomach. She is 16yrs old and weighs only 35kg. Is it becoz of this thyroid. Is this a safe drug or please suggest some best preventive measures and how long to continue this treatment. I was told that Homeopathy is best for thyroid without causing any side effects. What are the possible side effects of Thyroid 25mcg.

Thank you for writing in HMC,
Your daughters TSH levels are on the Higher side, which suggests hypothyroidism. Thyroxine is a hormone made by the thyroid gland, which is supplemented to her through drugs as her body is either not producing it, or her thyroid receptors are not functioning . usually hypothyroidism causes weight gain , your 16 year old daughter is 35kg which is not overweight, but to know her BMI kindly let us know her Height too. normal BMI is (18-23).thyroid related problems are very common among women. i wouldnt suggest homeopathy as of now. and the thyroxine dose is very low. the doctor who prescribed the medication will recheck the TSH levels in about 6months and if normal will gradually reduce the dose.If your daughter experiences any side effects like palpitations, excessive sweating, diarrhea then consult your doctor . do not stop the medication with consulting your doctor
