Is It Safe To Have Wine With High Pancreatic Enzyme Levels?

I was admitted to the ER 3 weeks ago. I was told my pancreatic enzymes were a little high but I did not have pancreatitis. The episode was brought on by alcohol consumption. I have not had a drink since. However, will I be able to drink wine or a beer in moderation occasionally?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Excess alcohol use can cause damage to the pancreas and long term changes to the liver.

Before initiating using any alcohol again, you may want to consider visiting your doctor for an assessment. He or she would be able to take bloods to determine if the pancreatic enzymes have returned to normal.
He or she may also suggest liver function blood tests as well.

If this is the case then it is possible that you may use a small amount of alcohol occasionally.
If you think it may be difficult to use only a small amount then it may be best not to use any at all to avoid any future problems.

I hope this helps
