Is It Safe To Increase Dosage Of Sebutex On Gaining Weight During Pregnancy?
my daughter is taking sebutex (not sure of spelling) and has been clean and sober for 5months. She is now almost 17 weeks pregnant. The Drr. monitoring her sebutex wanted to up her dose (as she is on a very low dose ) as she gains weight with the baby. He spoke with her midwife about this and now thry want to rfer her to their ob gyn Dr. on staff. My daughter is now very concerned about increasing her dose. So far all testing and blood work has been very good. Does she need to increase her dose as she gains weight? and does she need to see a specialist for this or can any ob gyn monitor this correctly and safely? I have red that if someone goes off sebutex while pregnant it can cause a miscarriage? your input will be appreciated. Thank you
Sebutex is a medication that is managed during pregnancy usually with a collaboration between her addiction doctor and her OBGYN. Midwives generally cannot manage pregnancies that require any medical monitoring. Your daughter's requirement will increase as she gains weight because pregnancy increases the clearance of the drug in her body. She may only need to see an OB for consultation and her midwife may do the delivery but it depends on the policy of the individual midwife practice. I strongly recommend she follow the advice of her addiction doctor as they are experts in the management of Sebutex. I hope this answered your question and good luck to your daughter.
