Is It Safe To Proceed With A CT Scan For An Elderly Woman Or Should We Postpone It To Limit Radiation Exposure?

My 85 year old mother fell last November and had a chest Xray and Ct Scan. In mid March, she had a mamogram and dexascan. She now has a script for an Xray (several views) of her back and left hip due to pain. She is scheduled for her follow Ct Scan on April 11th. We are concerned about all of the radiation involved in the same area of her body in less than 5 months. Should we postpone the CT Scan since the pain necessitates the back and hip xrays now? Is there a minimum amount of time that should separate all the tests for safety sake?

Hi,

There is no minimum radiation score, it's an unpredictable outcome if she comes out with radiation poisoning. It's always better to space the X-ray investigation at least a month apart.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
