Dear Madam, Hi & Welcome.
I appreciate your concern for your beloved husband and who is diagnosed to have a condition called
cerebral amyloid angiopathy.
In general it is not safe to take "blood thinners" while suffering from this condition.
It is a disease of blood vessels of the brain in which amyloid (a protein) gets deposited as a part of common aging process and is usually harmless.
However, it may damage the delicate blood vessels in the brain causing bleeding or
hemorrhagic stroke.
Anti-clotting medications ("blood thinners") like Warfarin should not be used to prevent
thromboembolism because of a high risk of bleeding result from it.
Unfortunately there have been no medicines yet shown to lower the risk of recurrent bleeding in patients suffering from cerebral amyloid angiopathy.
The decision regarding the use of blood thinners to prevent thrombo-embolism (
pulmonary embolism) should be taken carefully by his treating doctor by estimating the benefits versus risks, if at all low dose Aspirin or
Clopidogrel may be considered if the situation is critical.
Beside, his BP should be carefully monitored to reduce the risk of bleeding and maintained it within the normal range.
Hope these answer your queries.
Wishing your husband a very good health/.
