You are a known case of bipolar disorder since last 16 years and are on lamotrigine. You are taking clonazepam 4 mg a day since few months. Now the drug is not helping and you want to shift to xanax or Alprazolam.
Clonazepam and alprazolam both are benzodiazepine drugs. It is usually not advised to take these drugs regularly for more than 4 weeks because these drugs can produce tolerance and have abuse potential. You have been using high dose of clonazepam since last few months and this is probably the reason for poor effects of drug and the drug is not helping you. Shifting to alprazolam will not have much benefit. Alprazolam is also a short acting drug and have high abuse potential. The drug should not help much.
I will advise you to consult a psychiatrist and start tapering the doses of drug because otherwise the drug will make you dependent.
Thanks, hope this helps you
