Is It Safe To Take Advil While Taking Lisinopril For Lowering The BP ?
My doctor prescribed Lisinopril to help lower my blood pressure. I am experiencing vaginal bleeding. Since my cycle is so irregular, I am unsure if this is my cycle. If not, is vaginal bleeding a common side effect for lisinopril? Is it ok to take over the counter medications such as Advil and Aleve while taking Lisinopril?
Lisinopril is an blood pressure lowering agents of group Angiotension converting enzyme inhibitors. Advil and Aleve that is ibuprofen and naproxen are Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs prescribed for pain.
Common side effects of lisinopril are dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, etc. It does not cause vaginal bleeding. NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and naproxen interact with lisinopril. These drugs lower the lisinopril effect on reducing the blood pressure. Potassium rich diet should be avoided. Renal functions should be assessed frequently. Consult your physician for an alternative.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
