Is It Safe To Take Amiodarone Medication After Stent Insertion?
After a flutter and stent insertion (which freed me from angina) I was prescribed amiodarone. I could not tolerate it as it exhausted me utterly and other severe effects such as nausea, loss of appetie, loss of weight (5 kg from 70 to 65 kg),etc. I was fine when I stopped taking this drug, the effect was dramatic in just two days. Can I stop taking this drug without replacing it with another ? Can I replace it with higher dose of diltiazem than currently (40mg thrice a day) in place of 80 mg of telemisaratan ? Any things else that I could do ?
Hi Welcome to health care magic. Amiodarone is an antiarrhythmic drugs which in certain cases may have significant adverse effects as is the case with you. Any changes in dose of amiodarone or discontinuation should be done only in consultation with your primary care physician or cardiologist. Diltiazem can be supplemented or can be taken as a replacement of Amiodarone if your problem doesn't come in some weeks to come. Telmisartan should be continued to keep your blood pressure less than 140/80 mmHg and diltiazem can be taken in sustained release preparation which can be taken at bedtime once a day, the doses would be 90 to 120 milligrams per day. I hope the advice will be helpful for you.
