My husband takes dextroamphetamine for ADHD, we have one child together age 5 with lots of various medical issues. It s likely she has a syndrome of some kind but not enough data at this point to determine what that is. She s had cleft surgeries to correct a submucus cleft and VPI, was born with a giant congenital nevi as well as other various issues. She s a health, happy functioning kindergartner, she just has a few more obstacles than the other kids. My husband and I would like to start trying for another child however we have concerns if his medication had anything to do with our daughter s issues. Is that possible? My husband needs the medication to function but would be willing to stop it for the benefit of our child, if he needs to stop taking it how long does it take to get out of his system?
hello mam, usually the drug which father takes does not cause any congenital problems in children. however since you are trying for another child, this drug might cause erectile dysfunction by vasoconstriction. in case of chances for next child, I would recommend genetic counselling. hope it's useful.
