Is It Safe To Take Diovan Despite Generally Low BP Levels?
Hi- My Dr. just prescribed 25mg metoprolol succinate because in the office the other day my pressure was 156 over 98. I currently take Diovan 160mg and norvasc (generic) 10 mg. He said he doing this because I am scheduled for Anterior Hip Replacement in2-1/2 weeks and will not sign off on the surgery until my BP is down. He never believes me when I tell him out of the office (yes I get anxious every time I have an appointment) my BP is good to low. It generally runs about 140/80 but sometimes at home while relaxed as of last night my reading was 117/73. I am worried about adding this drug because it might drop my BP too low and I understand that this drug increases concerns of anesthesia during surgery. I take my BP at home on my machine, CVS and Acme when I am there and it is always good. Sometimes at home while relaxing..watching TV etc. it drops to those low levels above. Asked him to put me on one of those 24 hr monitor things so I can show him my numbers are normally good. Refuses to do that and says the only numbers that matter are the readings he gets ????? I feel he is putting me in danger adding this drug. Thank you- Terry
As u mentioned that ur bp at home fluctuates from 140/80 to 117/73 and u have high bp when u go for consultation that means u may have white coat hypertension. This is when patient bp is high when he is in doctor s office but normal at home, first of all u r right that you shd go for 24 hr bp monitoring but meanwhile u can continue metoprolol for bp and heart protection.
