Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking a zpac for cold and had indigestion this morning so I took a Pepcid ac. It is time to take the antibiotic and just noticed it said not to take with antacid. Is Pepcid considered an antacid. I took the Pepcid about four hours ago so is it safe to take the antibiotic?
Yes, Pepcid (Famotidine) is considered an antiacid. There is no known interaction between Pepcid and antibiotics. Unless it is an antimycotic, then yes, it is best avoided. However, even if there were an interaction between the two, four hours is a long enough and safe enough to take your next dose of Zpack. I hope this answers your question.
Wishing you all the best.
