Is It Safe To Take Antibiotics For Extreme Pain While Urinating?
Hi I think I have developed an infection post IUI ( today is day 5 post IUI), so was given citravascent and taking cranberry juice. today my doctor said to take augmentin since I have extreme pain while urinating. Meanwhile the culture test will take 2 more days for results. Is it safe to take the antibiotic? Does it mean my cycle is wasted?
Thank you for posting your query. Burning while passing urine is may be due to urinary infection. But unless there is pus cells in the urine, one should not assume that it is urinary infection. Augmentin is a good antibiotic useful in most urinary infections and is relatively safer in pregnancy. If the urine examination revealed a large number of pus cells and if you are very symptomatic like chills and fever, empirical use of augmentin without waiting for the urine culture may be justifiable. If these are not present then it is better to wait for the urine culture and sensitivity. You could still become pregnant in spite of the problem. Best wishes, Dr. Noble Zachariah
