General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
It is generally not recommended for people who have had a splenectomy to take aspirin or other blood-thinning medications unless specifically directed by a doctor, as it can increase the risk of bleeding. However, diclofenac sodium is not a blood-thinning medication like aspirin, so it may be safe for your partner to take as prescribed by the doctor.
Your partner needs to inform her doctor about her medical history, including the fact that she has had a splenectomy, before taking any new medication. Her doctor can then advise on the safety of the medication and whether it is appropriate for her to take based on her individual health history and current health status. If your partner has concerns about the safety of a medication, it is important to discuss these concerns with her doctor rather than stop the medication without medical advice.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
