Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I currently take diltiazem for irregular heart beat. I used to take celexa for anxiety for about 12 years. Was feeling ok with the anxiety and went off of it when I started diltiazem. Anxiety is flaring again. Would it be safe to take the celexa and diltiazem?
Diltiazem and citalopram (Celexa) do not usually have any clinically important interaction. In most cases, they can be used together without any anticipated problem. Your doctor should approve the regimen though!
If you decide to start Celexa again, be sure to start at the lowest dose (20 mg) and escalate slowly if necessary. If palpitations or other symptoms occur, you should contact your doctor at once.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis, Internal Medicine Specialist
