Is It Safe To Take Contraceptives After Fifties?

hello, i am almost 48 yrs old, stopped taking oral contraceptives 7 years ago, then tried the patch for 6 mos. both times i stopped taking the medication a lot of my hair fell out, and i vowed never to take contraceptives again. i now have severe cramping with my period, and once again my hair is falling out (for no apparent reason) and my gyn suggested qlaira. but i read you shouldn't take it if you're over 50, and I'm almost there. what do you think?
