Is It Safe To Take Dubagest Sr During Pregnancy?

Dr advised my wife to take this tablet Dubagest SR 300 after detecting the pregnancy. In its brochure its clearly mentioned that it can be continued for 12 weeks after pregnancy. Now 12 weeks are over but still this tab is prescribed by Dr to continue for more four weeks . Pls advise whether this is ok. Secondly in Contraindication Dont of its brochure its mentioned that Progenterone This tablet should not be used by women in case of known or suspected pregnancy. What does this mean ?. Is it that when women gets pregnant then it should not be used. Wherein our Dr has already prescribed this tab after getting pregnant.

Dubagest SR contains progesterone. Dubagest SR is recommended for recurrent abortion with progesterone deficiency. It is started from the 15th day of pregnancy until 8-16 weeks of pregnancy. Progesterone is needed for maintenance of pregnancy. In some pregnant women it is deficient and causes recurrent miscarriage in them. Therefore, Dubagest SR is given for maintaining pregnancy in progesterone deficient women. But it is not given in pregnant women with normal blood progesterone level. Therefore, in labeling document it is mentioned that “Dubagest SR in contraindicated in pregnant women”. In pregnant women with normal progesterone, it may cause side effect in baby.
You have not written anything about past history of your wife’s pregnancy. Do you have any history of miscarriage??

1.     Consult your obstetrician and discuss this as she/he might have recommended Dubagest SR for progesterone deficiency.
2.     Do not stop Dubagest SR by yourself unless suggested by your doctor
