Is It Safe To Take Nitrofurantin During Pregnancy?

This morning after my OB check up my doctor prescribed me nitrofurantin 100mg twice daily to treat my UTI. I am 36 weeks pregnant now. but i am not comfortable to take this meds. Is it really safe to take this meds if i am already 36weeks pregnant? please help me.

Hi, I have gone through your question. Nitrofurantoin is category B drug, which is safely given in pregnancy. It has no known harmful effect on the foetus. Urinary tract infection should be actively treated in pregnancy as it may lead to preterm labour.
I would suggest you to follow your doctor's advice.
