Is It Safe To Take Two 20mg Tablets Instead Of 40mg Benazepril?

I have been taking Benazepril 40mg for two years (along with 5mg Lotensin and lowest dose of Dyazide). I figured out today my last refill in August was called in incorrectly (20mg of Benazepril). I cannot contact my doctor until the morning but am having high BP along with other symptoms. Is it safe to take two of the 20mh tablets tonight?

If you are certain you were taking 40 mg of Benazepril and that the prescription you received was exactly the same medicine except it was 20 mg instead of 40, there should be no harm in taking 2 of the 20 mg tablets tonight. It would be the same dose. If you have been taking the 20 mg since August when it should have been 40 mg, this may be why your BP has gotten high again. You would then want to continue taking 2 of the 20 mg tablets until you get the proper pill dose of 40 mg. Also check to see what the prescription says. Perhaps the pharmacy was out of 40 mg and gave you 20 mg, then they should have written to take 2 each day on the bottle (although they should have explained this to you when you picked up the prescription). Hope this helps.
