Is It To Be Concerned About Bleach Spilled In The Eye?

My daughter works in a restaurant and spilled bleach into her eye. She flushed the eye for several minutes before leaving work. Although her eye is red, her pupil appears normal. She said her eye does not hurt, but does feel dry. What should I look for and do?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that bleach powder spilled into the eyes of your daughter. The first thing she has done is right as she has washed her eyes thoroughly.
The presence of redness indicates conjunctival irritation and this requires treatment by the use of antibiotic eye drops and artificial tears eye drops.
If the symptoms increase she needs to consult ophthalmologist for examination and treatment accordingly as in severe cases cornea may be involved.

Thank you
