Is It To Be Concerned About The Headache And Lump On The Head Due To A Hit?
I m a 61 year old male. I hit my head on the corner of my car hood about 3 hours ago. I ended up with a lump about the size of a grape about 3 inches above my right eye and back towards my right ear. I put ice on it and the swelling reduced by about 1/2. Right now I have a dull headache and am a little sick to my stomach. Should I be concerned? What should I be looking for?
Hello! I read your question and understand your concern. I would say that headache is normal after a head trauma. It may also persist for a long time after the trauma and can be associated with dizziness, ringing in the ears, etc. But if you have progressive headache and nausea, confusion or numbness in the limbs, I would recommend to go to the emergency room to have a brain CT scan to exclude a possible intracranial subdural hemorrhage. In the meantime I would recommend to have a little rest and avoid a second head trauma until you recover from your symptoms. Painkillers for the pain and Metoclopramide for the nausea would be very helpful. Hope to have been of help! Thank you for using HCM! Greetings! Dr. Abaz Quka
