Is It To Be Concerned About The Viscosity In The Sperm Test?

hi dr. my semen results have come back alot more drastic than they were before i stopped smoking. most worrying are viscosity=abnormal spermatoza concentration 20.4 and abnormal morphology 99%. could time between previous ejaculation account for any of these irregularities?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The total sperm count is on lower side and there are lot of morphologically abnormal sperm also.
Hypofunction of the prostate or seminal vesicles causes abnormal viscosity of seminal fluid. Infection and high levels of seminal leukocytes may also result in the development of abnormal viscosity.
Time between ejaculation can affect the semen analysis report.
You can redo the test after 48 hours of abstinence.
If the results are still abnormal, consult a urologist and get evaluated.

Sexologist Dr. Dr. B. Radhakrishnan. Nair's  Response
Hi,

Semen analysis should ideally be done with sex abstinence of 3 to 6 days. One value may not be enough to comment. Get a second analysis after 2 months and if that also show a decreased motility and morphology less than 4%, get an andrology consultation to find out any infection or varicocele.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
