Is It Too Late To Get PEP After Having Unprotected Oral Sex With An HIV-positive Person A Week Ago?
A week ago I received an unprotected blowjob from a woman whom I later discovered is HIV positive. Waiting to get tested after three months is killing me. Now I am sensitive to any body ache and fear I may have contracted the virus. Is it too late to get PEP?
Sorry, it is late for PEP, you should get PEP therapy done not later than 72 hours of exposure to HIV. Presently, you are advised to get clinically examined and tested for HIV. Get HIV antibody test done. The test is done using blood or oral fluid. Results are typically accurate after 3 months.
This test looks for antibodies produced by your body in response to HIV. If report is positive, you will be treated with ART. Your treating doctor may also tell you to get done 4th generation HIV test as this test detects both HIV antibodies and antigens. It’s highly accurate.
ART reduces the viral load in the blood to undetectable levels. It also prevents the virus from damaging the immune system. Regular blood tests are essential to measure the viral load in the blood and CD4 count to ensure that there is no risk of transmission to the partner,
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
