Is It Wise To Opt Out Of Treatment For Colon Rectal Cancer Metastasized To The Lungs And Liver In An Elderly Over 90 Years Old Who Has No Pain?
my father is 92 and just diagnosed with colon rectal cancer with metastasis to the lungs and liver. He is diabetic and recently dx. with atrial fib. He has high blood pressure and has had a stroke in the past. He has been independent but has lost 20 lbs lately and is not eating well. We are thinking of not being very aggressive and allowing him to live out his life without treatment. He has no pain at present. Is this wise or would treatment help?
At this stage with a stage 4 disease and multiple other diseases, chemotherapy will cause more harm and reduced quality of life than good. Better to give him some pain killers and appetite stimulants and allow him a good quality of life whatever is remaining naturally.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
