Is Lichen Amyloidosus Cancerous, Curable, Spreading In Nature?
My name is Sandra. I have a blue spot on my back between my shoulder blades. It was small but now has gotten bigger. When under stress, it itches and sometimes burns. My doctor diagnosed it as LICHEN AMYLOIDOSUS. My questions are: (1) Is this cancerous (2) Is there any permanent cure for this? (3) Will it keep on spreading?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history you are probably suffering from macular amyloidosis and not lichen amyloidosis. In both the cases: • They are not cancerous. Sometimes they may be associated with systemic disease like thyroid dysfunction and diabetes. • It is a long-term (chronic) disease, but it can be cured with a proper treatment. • It is usually localized. And it won't progress apart from the site at which it has occurred.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
