Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband is depressed AND TAKING RISPERADOL he has been on the medication for 2 weeks - take.50mg 2 times a day. He is very lethargic and has a very loose stool that he can not control. He also has type 2 diabetes. Can the Risperdal effect the diabetes?
I can understand your concern. Risperidone is a second generation antipsychotic drug. The drug is safe to use and is free of serious side effects. It is not associated with side effect of diarrhoea in the dose your husband is taking. So you can give him this drug without worries.
The drug is associated with metabolic side effects and can lead to hyperglycaemia and might worsen diabetes control in a lot of individuals. So the drug in high dose should be used judiciously.
THANKS AND TAKE CARE
