Is Low Iron Level In Blood Of A 12 Year Old A Cause For Concern?

My 12 year old son has low iron in his blood. What is the concern? He may also have mono we are waiting on the test results. He is tender in his abdomen, but this maybe due to reflux. His doctor told me his iron is low and needs retesting in 2 weeks. I have never heard of boys having low iron.

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

Low iron is quite common in boys. But to be of concern we should take in to account other parameters like low platelets and bleeding manifestations and organs size increasing in the abdomen or lymph nodes increasing in size in various places in the body. Please consult your pediatrician.
