Is Low Platelets During 19 Weeks Pregnant Of Concern ?

I am 19 weeks pregnant and my blood test revealed slightly low platlets . My red and white bliid cell count is normal. My dr. ordered other test to chk for hep c and.thyroids. .in worried because one year before pregnancy I got a nose percing dand bled every where.my blood looked like water and it took forever to stop bleeding..im worried!!! What could be wrong?

Thanks for the query.
Some amount of reduction in platelet number can be seen during pregnant.
This is called gestational thrombocytopenia.
The possible causes for this are:
-Hemodilution
-Increased destruction of platelets.
Normal platelet count is 1.5 to 4 lakhs/microlitre.
Usually in gestational thrombocytopenia the platelet count with be at lower normal levels.
No need to worry about it, usually after delivery this condition will get corrected.
But if platelet count is below normal limits, better to get evaluated throughly to find out the cause and treatment should be taken accordingly.
If platelet count falls to very low, you may need replacement.
