Is Lung Transplant A Safe Option When Diagnosed With ILD?
Hi Team - My mother is suffering from ILD (pulmonology), from last 4 years. I wanted an opinion on if a lung transplant is a safe option or not. She is on the following medication - Nintedanib 100 (3 times a day), pulmoclear (once day), Foracorte(nebulization twice a day) on 2.3 Ltr Oxygen 24*7.
The prognosis for lung transplant will differ case to case. However, general consensus is that if you are over 75 years of age, you are not suggested for lung transplant. Some of the cases may live for 15 or even 20 years after a lung transplant.
More over, life becomes definitely easy and comfortable after a lung transplant. To sum up your query, it has been observed, that 1 year survival after lung transplant is about 85-90%, whereas 5 year survival after lung transplant is about 60-70%.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
