Hello,

After a transplant it is important to wait till the scar heals and till the general health gets normal. The treating doctor will inform you of your kidney health post- transplant surgery. Once your doctor gives you a fitness certificate to resume normal life & sexual activity, there’s no need to worry about harming the transplanted kidney.

Masturbating once in a week should not be harmful provided you avoid aggressive and prolonged masturbation. Fatigue is one of the causes due to which kidney transplant recipients’ lack the desire to participate in sexual activities. Avoid prolonged and aggressive sex. Avoid getting tired. Short, quick sex is a better choice.

Certain lifestyle changes should be welcomed, more priority should be given to affection and emotional bonding in the relationship than physical sex. A supportive and matured partner is a better choice. There is no change in sexual satisfaction though some changes in sexuality may occur.

Every individual experience is different. While some may experience improvement of psychological state, metabolic and endocrine imbalances, normalization of hormonal profiles, after transplant some experience sexual dysfunction. Kidney transplant may cause sexual adjustments in especially older adults. Any sexual problem experienced must be consulted with healthcare professionals so that it can be appropriately treated.

Sexual problems may arise on aging. However, more focus should be on the general health than sexuality. A matured partners who will be supportive and for whom your health matters more will be the best choice.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
