Is Metmorfin Hydrochloride The Right Medicine To Bring Down LH Levels As I Prepare For Pregnancy?
Hi Doctor,
I am 26 years old female married for last 2.5 years now. We are trying to conceive for some time now. Is metmorfin hydrochloride the right medicine to bring down my LH levels. I have also done HSG test which was successful. Please suggest whether I am heading in the right direction in terms of getting pregnant.
Hi, It is good to know that you have normal HSG results. What about the semen analysis result? I hope it is also normal. From your notes I presume you have polycystic ovary disease. What is your BMI? IF you are overweight/obese, it is extremely important that you reduce weight. Weight reduction even by 10% itself improves chances of ovulation and pregnancy. Yes Metformin is the right medicine. When taken in the correct dose, 500mg thrice daily it does improve the chances of ovulation and pregnancy. If I were your doctor, I would prescribe clomiphene citrate along with Metformin as this combination is more effective than either of the drug given alone. With clomiphene it is important to do serial follicular scan to make sure about the response to treatment, and to see if excessive number of eggs are growing. If excessive eggs are growing, the dose needs to be reduced. I hope I have answered to your satisfaction.
