Is Missed Bowel Movement After Arthoscopy Surgery Concerning?

I had arthroscopy surgery on my left knee last Thu. (5 days ago). I have discontinued pain meds as of yesterday. I have been taking a stool softener for 3 days but have not had a bm since last Wed. Do I need to be worried? My knee remains quite swollen. I start PT this week.

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and i am pleased to assist you.
As long as you are at least passing flatus and there is no abdominal distension, there is no need to worry.
Take high fiber diet, drink enough fluids and take a short course of laxatives.
Once you increase your physical activity, I feel you would start having good bowel movements again.

I hope that answers your question.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
