Is Missed Period And Positive UPT Sign Of Pregnancy?
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...I last had my periods in january have done several hpt and they were all negative. Did another one yesterday and this morning it came out positive. Why has it taken so long to show?
Yes madam, Delayed period with positive UPT is confirmation of pregnancy.
Pregnancy test on urine has few limitations; they may report false negative under following conditions:
1. If performed too early: Usually these tests are reliable after about a week after missing a period.
2. If the urine sample collection is not appropriate: Overnight early morning first urine sample contains good concentration of hCG hormone which is qualitatively assessed in these tests. Some times, random urine samples may not have sufficient concentration of hCG reporting false negative results.
Even one positive result of UPT should be considered as diagnostic of pregnancy. For further confirmation, you may opt for ultrasonography which will give you direct visual evidence of pregnancy.
Please report to antenatal clinics for appropriate antenatal check up and advice. Start consuming Folic acid regularly.
I hope this resolves the dilemma in your mind.
