Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
I am sorry your UC is not under better control during your
pregnancy.
The oral dose of
prednisone you are taking is actually a very low dose compared to other patients I have cared for with autoimmune diseases.
Generally,
steroids are not harmful during pregnancy for the baby, however anyone on them for a long period of time is at risk for glucose intolerance and obesity. Generally if you have
muscle weakness as a side effect, it is usually restricted to the lower legs and that can be treated with regular exercise.
The "weakness" of your bladder and uterus ligaments are most likely symptoms from the growing uterus and are common in all pregnant women. The ligaments surrounding the uterus and in your pelvis and hips naturally relax to accommodate the growing baby and it is also common to have problems holding your urine as your uterus grows larger.
So unless there is some other reason you need a c-section, you can and should have a planned
vaginal delivery like any healthy pregnant woman. One thing steroids do is cause is problems with
wound healing, so it is actually safer for you to avoid a c-section if possible.
You may feel better if you exercise your pelvic muscles regularly by doing Kegel exercises (there are instructions on the internet on Google and Youtube) and also try to add a low-impact exercise program 20-30 minutes 3 days weekly which will help to strengthen your body and prevent
excessive weight gain.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question and that my advice was helpful.
Best wishes for the rest of the pregnancy, Dr. Brown
