Hello Doctor, My wife is currently 5 months pregnant and has a history of anxiety attacks. She has been on Nexito 10 for some time and is not on the drug for the last 7 months. Now she is feeling anxious and the doctor has asked us to take Nexito 10 mg. Is it safe to take this drug and is there is any side effects to the mother or child?
For any medicine in pregnancy, we use the risk - benefit principle before prescribing it.
Pregnancy is described as a roller- coaster of emotions and can be particularly difficult for women with mood issues like anxiety. On a balance, the decision to continue the medication might better than suffering with anxiety. I am not sure whether there is associated depression etc. In any case, it might be better to continue taking the small risk instead of suffering anxiety attacks & consequences.
We will need to do fetal echo to look at the heart of the baby in detail apart from checking the brain and spinal cord in detail in anomaly scan. Also the neonatologist will check the baby after birth.
Hope this helps, Take care.
