Hello Maam, Let me see if I can offer some guidance to you. If you are having the niacin flush you are taking the form of nicotinic acid that is used to lower cholesterol/
lipids in some individuals and requires
liver enzyme monitoring just like any medication.
I would recommend that you do not self-medicate. Nutrition plays a large and complicated role in affecting "depressive" symptoms. A thorough work-up on your nutritional status and a referral to a doctor who can coordinate such care is preferable. Many times people get depressed as a result of an undefined medical condition. Treat the condition and depressive symptoms go away. For example, how is your thyroid?
Eating a well balanced meal plan emphasizing exericise would be a good place to start. Exercise actually changes our physiology and our mental mind set.
Antioxidants are helpful.
The best medicine today I believe is individualized. I can give you some ideas on what people have used for
depression historically, but I do not recommend you experiment on yourself. The safest one I will mention are the omega 3 fatty acids and please, seek mental health support. Please do not be ashamed.
The omega 3s also come in vegetarian capsules and are widely taken. As always, my heart goes out to you. I have a healing infographics you mind find soothing at https://www.pinterest.com/kathyshattler/ So, schedule an appointment with your primary provider. In the meantime, seek out inner peace, inner strength.
Practice focusing exercises, prayer,
meditation. And if we can help any further after checking with the doctor, please come back . . . Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
