Is Norethestrine Effective In Delaying Periods After Periods Start?

I was prescribed norethestrine to stop. My period over my holidays and was planning to take it 3 days before my period started. However it started 30 mins after I took the first tablet (before it was in my system) I have continued to take the next 2 tablets. Is it worth continuing to take them. Will they stop or reduce my period
