Hi I am getting married in May I am in my 40s I am considering hymenoplasty - I have had sex few times which has allowed my vigina to stretch 3 fingers wide - I would be most greatful if you can tell me if I am lucky enough to get pregnant would I be able to give normally after the surgery?
Hello and welcome to HCM, I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries. After hymenoplasty if you are planning a pregnancy then hymen will be broken during sexual episode. So hymenoplasty will not be an issue at all. If at all there is a scarring then an episiotomy cut, [ routinely given to widen the vaginal orifice during delivery] may be given and vaginal delivery allowed. So the hymen surgery will not interfere with normal delivery.
If there are some other reasons that will hamper normal delivery like abnormal baby positions or any other then normal delivery will not be possible. These are different issues and not related to hymen. So you may have it done safely without being concerned about it affecting the route of delivery. Hope this was helpful. Feel free to ask any further queries and I will be happy to help. Thanks for using HCM. Have a good day. Dr Nilajkumar Bagde Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology
