Is Numbness Of Genital Area, Post Recovery From HSV Type-2 Meningitis, Normal?

I m a 64 yr old woman recently diagnosed with HSV type 2 meningitis. I was treated intravenously with antibiotics and anti viral meds for 2 1/2 days. Followed up with at home Acyclovir 800mg 5 pills per day for 8 days and now 400mgs twice a day for another month. I believe I still have a few lesions now around the anus. My whole genital area is numb, not really painful. Is the numbness normal? How long will I have active lesions?

Hello Dear. HSV infection will have nerve involvement and it may take around 6 months to one year for the active lesions to heal.

People who become infected with HSV will have the virus for the rest of their lives. Even if it does not manifest symptoms, the virus will continue to live in an infected person’s nerve cells. Some people may experience regular outbreaks. Others will only experience one outbreak after they have been infected and then the virus may become dormant. Even if a virus is dormant, certain stimuli can trigger an outbreak. These include:

stress
menstrual periods
fever or illness
sun exposure or sunburn
It is believed that outbreaks may become less intense over time because the body starts creating antibodies.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
