Hello there, I understand that you are a diabetic with an HbA1c of 7. It would have helped to know your age and any other medications that you are on. To answer your question, occasional alcohol is not very harmful. However the drink size, number of drinks and how often you are drinking determine the effect on the body. To be very specific for men 2 or less drinks per day and for women 1 or less drink per day is higher limit. Alcohol can cause low sugars on the short term especially if you are on insulin and may cause high sugars when taken on a long term basis. Alcohol also affects the cholesterol levels badly. So try to avoid when you can, but can have the occasional drink or two at weddings or events. Continue the effort to maintain ideal weight and try to keep HbA1c below 7. Hope I have answered your question. Take care.
