Is Pain In Arm Normal Post A Cortisone Shots?

I got a cortisone shot on friday morning and although the initial pain has subsided. I now have a burning sensation in my arm similar to when i was on magnesium sulfate for my blood pressure. It feels like I have someone shoving razor blades through my veins. Is this normal or do i need to go to the er?

Hi,

You have not mentioned whether you have this shot in your muscles or in your veins, but as per your history and symptoms it appears that you have an intravenous injection. Usually, this type of pain occurs when there is some inflammation of injected vein occurs post injection (thrombophlebitis). You need to apply some counter-irritant ointment over the injected site and give rest to the part, it will gradually wean off in 3-5 days.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rohan Shanker Tiwari, Orthopedic Surgeon
