Is Painful Knee After Having Injury Serious?

I have an injury to my right knee from high impact workouts (thanks navy pt) and I hit that same knee on the outside area on the bone with my trailer hitch (oops I am clumsy). Not really swelling but very painful to bed and put weight on. I have used ice and elevated it. Now using heat but still pretty painful. Should I go see a doctor or should it be okay? Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
yes, i think it is better to show this type of injury to a doctor and at least get x ray examination. As some time there can be minor hair line fracture which can occur during such fall.
My other concern is ligament or meniscus injury which can be diagnosed on MRi or clinical examination which can be done by a orthopaedic surgeon so It is best to show it to doctor.
I would also suggest you to wear a knee brace and should not keep too much weight on affected side and apply ice. You can also take Brufen tablet for pain relief.
