Hello, and I would be happy to answer your question today.
Recovering from an abortion is similar to recovering from giving birth, whether or not you have had a termination of
pregnancy, a
miscarriage, or birth of a living child.
For that reason, as your uterus contracts and gets back to its normal, nonpregnant size, you may be experiencing tightening,
abdominal pain,
pelvic pain pressure and cramping. In your case in particular, having a
bicornuate uterus may mean that the area you perceive your cramping maybe slightly different than other women. You may experience these symptoms until your menstrual cycle resumes at the end of your pill cycle.
The only concern I have is that, because if your bicornuate uterus, it would be extremely important for you to have had an
ultrasound examination during your follow-up, to confirm that the pregnancy was completely removed. If that was done at the time, it is unlikely that there were any complications of the procedure itself.
Taking an anti-inflammatory type of pain medication, such as ibuprofen or naproxen, should relieve the symptoms of pain you are experiencing.
If you begin to experience nausea, vomiting, fever, foul-smelling
vaginal discharge, or severe abdominal pain that limits your ability to walk, you should check in with your healthcare provider and possibly make an appointment for an examination, as these can be symptoms of severe complications.
I hope that I was able to adequately answer your question today, and that this information was helpful to you.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
