Is Pessary Fitting The Only Solution To Urinary Incontinence?

I am scheduled for a pessary fitting tomorrow, but wonder if I should do it. I am managing by wearing pads at night. It is only upon getting out of bed that I lose control. That can be during the night or in the morning. In a month, probably only five pads are actually soiled. The pessaries sound awful to me. Is my problem bad enough to be fitted now?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The treatment for incontinence depends on the type and severity of the problem that you may have. Incontinence can be controlled with pelvic exercises, double voiding, bladder training and fluid-diet management. If you have been diagnosed with prolapse than you need to go for pessary. Topical estrogens application and anti-cholinergic can be of help.

Consult your treating doctor.
Take care.

Dr. Nupur K.
