Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It could be either due to pregnancy as pregnancy induces synthesis of excess MSH which stimulates melanocytes. Melanocytes are the pigment cells and there stimulation leads to darkening of skin, specially at trauma prone sites like elbow and knuckle. Another reason for hyperpigmentatin could be due to vitamin deficiency, most commonly Vitamin B12 deficiency. I suggest adding a B 12 vitamin supplement for a few days. In addition you may use an exfoliating cream e.g glycolic acid cream, twice daily for a few weeks to help exfoliate excess pigment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
