Is Pregnancy Possible In 5 1/2 Weeks?
My last period was on July 9th, 2011. I had sex July 22-25th and got a positive test result on Aug. 10th.
I saw my doctor and had an ultra sound on Aug. 31st. THe doctor is saying that the ultrasound and blood test results are showing around 5 1/2 weeks pregnant. Is it possible to only be 5 1/2 weeks from the dates I had sex above?

The period of pregnancy is calculated from the 1st day of your last menstrual cycle. so it is quite possible that you are 5 1/2 weeks pregnant.

The tests were performed on 31 August. You had sex on July 22-25. So from the date of sex up to August end, it is 5 weeks period. This precisely fits into the calculations.
The clinical calculations of pregnancy start from the Last Menstrual Period date (LMP) while the ultrasonography scan calculates the period of gestation form the day of conception which is about two weeks later than the LMP. Few days variation in ultrasonography estimation of pregnancy is permissible. The blood tests for Beta hCG should not be used for calculating the period of gestation.
I feel, you should remove the dilemma about the gestational period from your mind. The reports seem to be absolutely congruent with the dates.
