Hi I was diagnosed with pcos when I was 15 I managed to lose weight until falling pregnant with my first baby. Me and my partner really want to try for another baby but my old baby weight isn t coming off as easily as it did before my periods are also absent so my gp put me on norethisterone 5mg to regulate them again I was just wondering if I could ovulate on them and become pregnant for a second time and if so how long would I need to take them for?
Hi Since you have PCOS, the extra weight you have put on has caused hormone imbalance resulting in irregular cycles. You usually don't ovulate while on norethisterone for 21 days. If I were your doctor first i would strongly advise you to reduce weight. Reducing weight even by 5% can regularise your cycles and increase the chances of conception. You need to be aware of this.
What is your age? What is the age of your child? I will first do infertility work up. PCOS women usually have anovulatory cycles. That is why you have irregular cycles. I would start medications for induction of ovulation. To increase your chances of conception I repeat maintain normal BMI, quit smoking ( if you're a smoker) and have intercourse at least three times in a week. If you have any further concerns do contact me through Healthcare Magic.
