Is Pregnancy Possible While On Patch?

Hi, i've been using the patch as my choice of contraception. My boyfriend and I have been having unprotected sex. I was wondering if it was possible for me to get pregnant because sometimes I dont change the patch on the correct day. So can I get pregnant?

Hello, and i hope I can help you today.

The patch is most effective when you change it (and change the location) weekly for three weeks per month and then have a patch-free week. There may be some medicine left in the patch after one week, so you may still have some pregnancy protection, but it is not possible to know if the patch is still effective because it was not studied. Therefore, I would assume you have an increased risk of pregnancy if you do not follow the manufacturer's directions to change the patch weekly.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this information was helpful.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
